The reserve
The knife someone carries for twenty years. Two of the best are made within an hour of here, in Golden and up in Oregon, and I can have most of them in hand the same week. Initials go at the base of the blade beside the maker's own mark; a date or a line goes on the handle scale. I keep it small. A good folder does not need help.
The one I buy for you
The ones I usually buy. Want a different one? Name it in the notes.
The lockback with the brass bolsters, made in Idaho since 1964. The blade takes a dark mark; the bolsters take a bright one. This is the knife for a name.
The engraving
W. Hale
Dark on the blade, bright on the brass. The words and the face, on the material. The piece is the real thing.
